West Sussex County Councilwould like to co-produce a needs assessment with the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities in West Sussex. In order to do so we are asking for your help in two main ways:

• To identify the communities and key community representatives/individuals.

• To identify the significant issues/difficulties facing BAME communities, beyond what all people/communities in the county would face.

Based on what you tell us we will try to decide the best way to involve people in helping us to understand the issues that should be included in the needs assessment. This document explains more and this document asks for your feedback. Any further research or reports you wish to submit in order to advise on the project will also be greatly received.

Children and Families Act

Jane Chew encourages Synchronise members to look at the West Sussex Local Offer information and 'sign up' if they have not already done so. This attachment is a précis of the new Act and its requirements produced by the Council for disabled Children.

The Local Offer is a web resource to support families and professionals with information about all the various opportunities for children and young people 0-25 with Special Educational Needs or Disability. This will include education and training opportunities, apprenticeships, social activities, respite care, holiday activities and so on.

It goes live on 1st September but will still be on-going 'work in progress' to ensure every relevant organisation is on board. Jane is beginning to compile a list of post 16 education & training providers to send to the Local Offer team to support Preparation for Adulthood 16-25. But doesn't, by any means, know all the organisations.

The prototype Local Offer site is listed below as is the email address for comments on the site and to sign up:

Elizabeth Flegg saw traineeships being advertised on-line on the Apprenticeship Vacancy site in the Crawley area. However they were not being run by Central Sussex College. Other providers may only cater their course for those between the ages of 16-18. There seems to be a mixed picture in regards to those wanting to do a trusteeship and with JSA rules as well. Jane Chew offered to email a list of provider to be attached to the minutes.
